PhD in Understanding and Managing Extremes – Curriculum in Hydrological, Meteorological, Geological, Chemical and Environmental Risks: Applications Open
The first edition [2017/2018] of the Hydrological, Meteorological, Geological, Chemical and Environmental Risks curriculum of the PhD Programme in Understanding and Managing Extremes (UME) is being offered by the UME Centre of the IUSS Pavia (www.iusspavia.it). The PhD course aims to provide students the highest quality training with an excellent scientific and professional expertise and advanced knowledge of natural, chemical and environmental risks  The programme ranges on the assessment and mitigation of risks related with hydro-meteorological extremes, with geological hazards, with chemical accidents and their environmental impacts.
The study areas of this curriculum include aspects of hydrology, atmospheric physics, earth physics, fluid mechanics, climatology, environmental monitoring, climate change, issues related to the "soil-atmosphere" and "ocean-atmosphere" macro-areas, production of risk scenarios, identification of mitigation actions, evaluation and management of natural, chemical and environmental risks with reference to acute events and to protracted exposures.
Applications are currently open, with a deadline of May 3rd 2017 at 13:00 CET and 12 scholarships are available for the highest ranking applicants.
